Spirometry is basically a simple functional method describing the condition of the lungs and bronchi. The person under examination exhales on demand into a spirometry machine, which measures a range of variables. In particular, the volume of air inhaled and the rate of exhalation. The type and extent of lung and bronchial involvement is then assessed and, if necessary, the necessary treatment is determined.
