Department of Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation

This department does not have its own resuscitation beds, it provides service to patients both in and outside the operating theatres. Collaborative care in the ICU of the internal ward is an integral part of the service. The ARO team consists of a physician and a specialist nurse. The ARO service is provided at the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun for 24 hours.

When a patient is admitted to the hospital for surgery, the ARO physician conducts a pre-operative interview to determine the patient's health status and determines the pre-operative preparation to ensure a smooth course of the operation based on the chronically used medications.

The physician then determines the type of anaesthesia best suited to the patient in terms of the type of operation, age and any chronic diseases. It is possible to use either general anaesthesia, where the patient is in artificial sleep and on controlled ventilation for the entire operation, or conscious anaesthesia, which affects only the upper or lower limb or the lower half of the body. Depending on the patient's preference, these techniques may use sedation, which allows the patient to breathe on their own and not perceive unpleasant sounds from the surroundings.

In the operating theatres, the ARO ensures a painless operation. Throughout the operation, the ARO doctor monitors the patient's basic vital signs and ensures their stability. For this purpose, he is equipped with modern medical devices and medicines that meet all EU standards. Before the patient is taken back to the ward from the operating room, the ARO doctor recommends optimal postoperative analgesia and the use of chronic therapy in consultation with the surgeon. Outside the operating theatres, the anaesthesia and resuscitation department cooperates with other departments of the hospital in the management of life-threatening conditions caused either by decompensation of chronic diseases or sudden trauma.
