Pelvic Floor Care as a Topic of the Czech Radio Two's Coffee on the Fourth

Did you know that "endless weight training" can be rather harmful to your pelvic floor? Most of us think that the key to health is to constantly tighten and strengthen the pelvic floor. Head physiotherapist of the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun Ing. Marie Plecháčová in the programme "Coffee at 4 o'clock" on Czech Radio Two, however, points out a crucial point: The pelvic floor must not only be able to work, but also to relax.

Problems such as incontinence or back pain are often caused not only by flaccidity, but paradoxically also by too much tension. If the muscles cannot relax, they get tired and stop performing their function.

What can we take away from this for everyday life?

  • Breathing is essential: proper diaphragmatic breathing is more important for the pelvic floor than isolated "clenching".
  • Movement, not drill: The pelvic floor loves natural movement of the whole body, not just static exercises.
  • Feel your body: Learn to recognize when your muscles are in tension (e.g., during stress) and consciously relax them.

You can listen to the full conversation about how to prevent problems and why the pelvic floor is our body's "emotional barometer" here.
