Problems such as incontinence or back pain are often caused not only by flaccidity, but paradoxically also by too much tension. If the muscles cannot relax, they get tired and stop performing their function.
What can we take away from this for everyday life?
- Breathing is essential: proper diaphragmatic breathing is more important for the pelvic floor than isolated "clenching".
- Movement, not drill: The pelvic floor loves natural movement of the whole body, not just static exercises.
- Feel your body: Learn to recognize when your muscles are in tension (e.g., during stress) and consciously relax them.
You can listen to the full conversation about how to prevent problems and why the pelvic floor is our body's "emotional barometer" here.
