Beroun Surgical Outpatient Clinic treats over 15 000 patients per year

30. 4. 2020

Every day, including weekends and holidays, this makes an average of 46 cases. Although this year we cannot speak of typical seasonal accidents and injuries, the number of patients admitted to the Beroun surgical outpatient clinic was not much lower than in previous years. Injuries happen even during pandemics.

Apart from the usual surgical procedures such as wart removal, leg or arm fractures, the doctor may also encounter such interesting cases as the case of Mr Miroslav S. He had a bicycle accident in July 2019 with head, shoulder and knee injuries. During checks in the orthopaedic outpatient clinic of our hospital, Mr Miroslav was indicated for arthroscopic revision of the shoulder joint. After 5 months, under local anaesthesia, a stone was removed from the scar on his elbow. This case shows the complexity of the hospital. From the surgical admissions through the imaging department and orthopaedic outpatient department back to the surgeon's assistance. And you could say it's all in one building.

In addition to emergency cases, the doctors of the Beroun surgical outpatient clinic can also perform minor procedures under local anaesthesia after consultation. Over 500 patients were treated in this way last year. "We can remove warts, skin tumours, pigmented nevi and subcutaneous tumours. Carpal tunnel syndrome can also be removed here," says Pavel Sedláček, MD, head of the surgical outpatient clinic.

Surgical care is provided by doctors with many years of experience, focusing on complex trauma care, specializing in general and abdominal surgery and treatment of inflammatory skin diseases.

The surgical outpatient clinic, located on the ground floor of Hall C, is open every day from 7 am to 7 pm. Treatments are covered in full by the patient's health insurance.

Outside of these hours and in acute cases, when a sudden abdominal stroke has been ruled out, surgical patients are cared for at our sister hospital in Hořovice.
