"You are entitled to free transport if your attending physician has issued a transport order. You can order an ambulance even if you do not have a transport order, but in these circumstances you must pay for the journey yourself," explains Ondřej Fabian, Head of Transport. "Our hospital's medical transport service has 14 vehicles for transporting patients, so on average we drive up to 84,000 km per month."
Our vehicles are not part of the Ambulance Service
In case you are looking for urgent help and call the 155 line, the Health Ambulance Service arrives. Our ambulances' warning lights and sound signals are mainly used when material is being transported to the blood bank and therefore faster transport is required.
Each vehicle in the hospital fleet is equipped according to Decree 296/2012 Coll. and since some items of mandatory equipment are subject to expiry, an application has been developed in cooperation with the hospital's IT department to monitor the expiry of these items in each of these vehicles, which makes their maintenance very easy.
"Not only the drivers have a demanding job, but also the dispatchers, who handle around 130 incoming and outgoing calls a day," adds Fabian.
The Medical Transport Service also manages one of the main benefits for hospital employees, and that is the shuttle service. There are 15 cars available for medical staff at the Hořovice Hospital and the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital to travel to work from Prague, Beroun, Plzeň and Příbram.
