Sports Medicine Clinic
The sports medicine clinic provides comprehensive diagnostic, preventive and assessment care in the field of sports medicine. It carries out sports medical examinations for both children and adults, and also focuses on the primary and secondary prevention of lifestyle-related diseases.
Our outpatient clinic is an integral part of the RNB cardiac rehabilitation programme and the exercise therapy programme for patients with established conditions such as obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, as well as for patients with chronic lung disease, congenital heart defects, and those who have undergone heart surgery, amongst others.
Some serious conditions only become apparent during physical exertion and can therefore only be detected through a stress test. This test helps to identify high-risk conditions at an early stage and contributes to the prevention of sudden death during sporting activities, for example in the case of certain types of cardiomyopathy and other heart conditions.
We collaborate with RNB’s specialist outpatient clinics, particularly those specialising in cardiology, rehabilitation, pulmonology and diabetology. We also work with the nutritional counselling service and the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre. This ensures that both athletes and patients receive comprehensive care within a single facility.
Scope and range of healthcare provided

If you are unable to attend your booked examination on the day of the appointment, please call:311 745 255.
Ergometric examination
This is a painless, non-invasive examination during which we monitor heart activity, blood pressure and physical fitness whilst you exercise on an exercise bike.
The test begins with a consultation with a physician, followed by a resting ECG, blood pressure measurement, and measurement of your height and weight.
Depending on the physician’s instructions, the test continues with gradually increasing physical exertion on a bicycle ergometer. During the exercise, we monitor your body’s response: blood pressure, heart rate, continuous ECG recording and haemoglobin saturation.
The exercise lasts approximately 5–20 minutes. Afterwards, you will be monitored by medical staff for a further 10–30 minutes.
Important
If you experience any discomfort during the test (chest pain or tightness, shortness of breath, dizziness, weakness or an irregular heartbeat), please inform the staff immediately.
