More reality and less misinformation

28. 1. 2021

This is one of the wishes of the head of the Department of Aftercare, MUDr. Miloš Stoilov, CSc., whom we asked to summarize the good and the worse in the past year.

What was 2020 like?

2020 was not an easy year. It was hit by a covid pandemic that has significantly changed society and, consequently, the structure of our patients' lives and affected their lives. Unfortunately, the disease did not escape our department and affected all categories of our staff. I must, however, express my admiration and great joy at the determination with which the hospital management has approached the reorganisation of the functional structure and, in particular, of the medical services for the care of Covid-positive patients and the other activities of the hospital. Sadly, I think the theme of the pandemic will carry across all reviews. Therefore, I would prefer to focus on what has been accomplished. And there has been quite a bit. We have been able to recruit two new physicians to our aftercare department, one of whom is already board certified in geriatrics. After a competitive selection process, a new station nurse took up her post, and the team of social and activation workers was also strengthened.

Although last year seems to have been a fruitful one in terms of staffing, I am aware that we cannot do without doctors from abroad in the long term. I am therefore pleased that we have been able to start training several foreign doctors for the approbation process. Thanks to the positive attitude of our hospital's management, we were able to adapt our premises for the new doctors, and we also received support in terms of computer technology. Not only for new doctors, but also for other colleagues.

However, this does not change the situation of the need to supplement the number of nurses. The state of the profession is such that our nurses work dozens of hours of overtime every month, are overworked, tired and I take my hat off to them for how well they treat patients and manage to keep their good humour, outlook and humour. However, we welcome reinforcements in this profession with open arms.

And as for wishes and plans?

Our plans are closely linked to the development of the hospital. We are very much looking forward to the construction of a new telephone exchange and thus expanding the number of portable telephones, which we welcome. The completion of the renovation of the mortuary is also important. We also see progress in the preparation for more modern electronic communication /mailing/ with doctors outside the hospital, as our needs often extend beyond the borders of our district and we communicate with many departments from Mladá Boleslav, Kolín, Mělník, Kralupy nad Vltavou or Kladno, with whom we have been cooperating for a long time in a very professional and necessary way from the point of view of our hospital.

We are happy to see the construction of a kindergarten building opposite the hospital car park and the development of the proven Carsharing (sharing of a company car by several employees).

I would like to see less misinformation and more reality spread through the public domain so that the development of the hospital continues and we have as many satisfied patients as possible. It is my heart's desire to have a CT scanner in Beroun and to continue to expand the activities of our department.

To my colleagues, patients, hospital management and everyone else, I wish above all good health and optimism, a realistic view of the current health situation in the nation and its health.
