Practical state examinations of physiotherapy students were held for the second time in the Rehabilitation Centre of our hospital

On 4 and 5 June, practical state examinations of students of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy took place in our Rehabilitation Centre. A four-member committee tested the knowledge and skills of the students, who, by passing this exam, again came closer to completing their three-year study effort.

The Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital cooperates with the Czech Technical University in Prague, specifically the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, especially in the field of practical training of physiotherapists.

"I see the organisation of the state examinations in the Beroun facility as a natural extension of this excellent cooperation, which has been working very well for a long time. After last year's successful premiere, we did not hesitate and again took the opportunity to organize the practical part of the state exams here. A great advantage of the local workplace is that students have the opportunity to work with real patients and their diagnoses," said a member of the examination committee and assistant at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies in Medicine at the FMBI CTU in Prague Mgr. Milada Luisa Šedivcová.

The exams were divided into two days. One of the centre's consulting rooms was used to prepare the students, while the exam itself was held in the meeting room. The students presented their knowledge on various clinical cases, for example, in patients after total hip and knee arthroplasty, after a stroke or in vertebrogenic algic syndrome, i.e. spinal pain associated with limited mobility.

"We evaluated how well the students could take a history, perform an initial kinesiology examination, establish therapeutic goals and design therapeutic modalities, perform an exercise physiotherapy unit with the patient, as well as educate the patient in the home environment. I have to say that it was an experience for the patients themselves - a pleasant diversification of their stay. Some of them even said that they learned something new about themselves," says the coordinator for science, research and rehabilitation at Beroun Hospital , Kristýna Hoidekrová, PhD.

The examination committee, consisting of teachers and clinical experts, evaluated the whole course very positively. "The students were very well prepared. It is clear that they did not underestimate their preparation, but they were also well prepared by their teachers. I would like to highlight the excellent organization both on the part of the faculty, represented by Ms. Master Šedivcová, and our perfectly managed organization under the leadership of Dr. Hoidekrová. Acknowledgement and thanks to all colleagues who participated in the smooth running of this year's exams," adds rehabilitation physician of the Beroun hospital and member of the committee MUDr. Ondřej Horáček, Ph. D.

And what about the students themselves? Of course, a great weight was lifted from those who successfully passed this part of the exam and joy came. "It's a huge relief, that's for sure. Even though nerves were at work, the examiners were very supportive and reassuring and I would like to thank them for their kind attitude. I would also like to thank the patient who willingly helped me during the exam and allowed me to demonstrate the method. If I successfully pass the second, theoretical part, I plan to continue on to a follow-up Master's degree and then we will see what department my steps lead to. The Beroun Rehabilitation Centre is very nice and well-equipped, so this will definitely be one of the options," adds student Jan Žežulka with a smile.
