These are prepared by seniors who knit and sew them in workshops that are regularly organized in the association. The aim is to support the elderly, who are overwhelmingly dependent on the help of others, to integrate back into active life.
"To show them that they are still needed, and that they still have something to teach us," says Gabriela Šejbová, who is behind the creation of Babíkov. "A few years ago we brought socks to your hospital, then we sent more. Then the covid put the brakes on everything. So we thought we would like to come back and see you again and bring back some products from our clients," Šejbová said of Tuesday's visit.
The Babíkov Society donated several dozen pairs of knitted socks, crocheted blankets and hand-sewn neckerchiefs to the patients of the Aftercare Unit. All of them will help a total of fifty-eight hospitalized patients, with the donations especially appreciated by people who have mobility difficulties. "As patients lie for long periods of time without being able to move around more, they tend to get cold. So the socks and blankets will keep them warm and make their time in bed more pleasant. So do headrests, which provide comfortable neck support. Thank you for the very nice gifts," said the station nurse of the ward Bc. Barbora Hauserová.
The socks were gladly welcomed, for example, by Věra Žákovcová from Prague, who is hospitalized in the ward. "My feet are always cold and these socks are very useful," said the senior citizen with thanks.
The non-profit association Babíkov can only carry out its activities thanks to in-kind or monetary donations from others, for which they organise various fundraisers. "For example, through the Znesnáze21 portal, we are now trying to raise funds from donors to buy materials," Gabriela Šejbová further noted.
