"I was not only born fifty-two years ago in the Beroun hospital, then the District Institute of National Health, but I also started as a doctor here in 1981, which is why I have a close relationship with it. I want to leave behind something private, tangible after I leave the mayor's office, something that is not directly related to mayoralty," explained Jiří Besser his support for the creation of the hospital park with a rehabilitation zone. It will be a unique space for rehabilitation with the possibility of practicing everyday movement activities, which will complement the complex of health care in the local hospital. Athletes will also be able to recover from injuries and surgeries in the park. It is no coincidence that the legendary hockey player and Nagano Olympic champion Dominik Hašek will sit on the board of the Foundation's board of directors. Sotirios Zavalianis and a number of other guests.
The rehabilitation area in the open air, with a number of interesting elements and obstacles simulating in a quiet environment many of the things that patients will encounter after returning to normal life, is nowhere else in the Czech Republic in a comparable medical facility. In the Beroun rehabilitation zone in the park, patients who have had injuries, hip or knee surgeries, or strokes will try and practice walking on various types of surfaces, on stairs with and without handrails, and will overcome various mini-obstacles and barriers while walking under the supervision of physiotherapists. "There will also be a door with stairs to practice getting on and off public transport, patients will be able to practice coordination and targeting at a basketball hoop, on a Russian skittle alley or on mini-golf, or they will try to climb a pole with adjustable height," said Jan Calta, the hospital's expert representative, briefly introducing the plan, adding that the space for practicing everyday movement activities will be supplemented by a resting gazebo.
The owner of the hospital has made no secret of his ambition to create a state-of-the-art therapeutic (medical) rehabilitation facility in Beroun, which is lacking in Central Bohemia. "The main bed capacity of the Beroun hospital should be the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Medicine in the coming years, after the reconstruction and connection of the former internship buildings. It will be complemented by an extension, which will house adequate facilities, including a swimming pool and gyms. The space for rehabilitation of patients will therefore be more than necessary," said Vlasta Dolejšová, spokesperson of the hospital.
"The fact that the Beroun hospital looks the way it does is the result of the entry of private capital. Although the hospital park was not the subject of privatisation of this health facility, it should serve patients and visitors just like the hospital and not just be a dumping ground for unnecessary things. It is obvious that the owner of the hospital is interested in creating this superstructure of healthcare and I will gladly support this idea," added Jiří Besser.
At the same time, the hospital management is also planning to add an open-air gallery to the hospital park with a rehabilitation zone, which will of course also serve other visitors to the hospital. Original sculptural works would make this natural corner even more special.
