MEP Tomáš Zdechovský and Sotirios Zavalianis discussed not only equal access to hospitals in the Czech Republic, but also our hospital's plans for the future.

MEP Tomáš Zdechovský from the Christian Democratic Union of Czechoslovakia (KDU-ČSL) and Sotirios Zavalianis, owner of AKESO Holding, met yesterday at the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital to discuss, among other things, the financing of public services from the state and regional budgets.

Sotirios Zavalianis has been pointing out the unequal financing of public service facilities in the health sector for a long time. In fact, the hospitals he owns provide 98% of health services under general insurance and yet they do not receive any support, as is the case with state- or county-owned hospitals.

Tomáš Zdechovský agrees: 'If a hospital provides a public service, the state should not apply a different view according to ownership. It should only take into account the quality of the service. At least in the case of AKESO holding hospitals, it turns out to the detriment of the state and the regions that they provide a service of top quality while being profitable and investing in their further development. The European Union has also begun to take notice of this unequal approach."

Mr Zavalianis then informed Tomáš Zdechovský about the hospital's plans to build a Mental Rehabilitation Centre, the construction of which is already underway on the hospital's premises. He stressed that the planned treatment system is to meet Western European standards. They also discussed the quality of care in obstetrics and paediatrics, which, according to both of them, should correspond to the level of care provided in Germany, the Netherlands or Denmark. The topic was not chosen by chance, because the Hořovice maternity hospital U Sluneční brány, which is part of the Hořovice Hospital, is not only renowned for its top quality, but is also the largest maternity hospital in the Central Bohemia Region.

Tomáš Zdechovský is also behind the Beroun hospital's cooperation with Charity Beroun, which he has long supported as a patron. The charity's employees communicate directly with the hospital and can thus deal with acute conditions in the field, consult with doctors on the use of medication or conditions requiring follow-up care, in which the Beroun hospital has more than 70 beds.
