The hospital in Beroun was really busy on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th September. The hospital celebrated the 80th anniversary of its opening in 1929. Hundreds of visitors came to see how it has recently grown in beauty, its modern equipment, its newly renovated premises, as well as an exhibition of children's drawings, photographs and documents reminding its history and historical ambulances.
On Friday afternoon, the new premises of the internal ward and intensive care unit were inaugurated in the presence of a number of distinguished guests. Among them were Deputy Minister of Health Marek Šnajdr, Director of the General Health Insurance Company Pavel Horák, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Czech Republic H.E. Konstantinos Kokossis, representatives of the town of Beroun headed by Mayor Jiří Besser, former Central Bohemian Governor Petr Bendl, Regional Councillor for the ČSSD and Mayor of Králův Dvůr Karel Mencl and many others.
It was not only in their speeches that words of thanks and admiration were heard for the huge amount of work that the new owner Sotirios Zavalianis, together with his colleagues and all the employees of the hospital, managed to do in less than two years since the takeover. Associate Professor Karel Sochor, Head of the Internal Medicine Department of the Beroun Hospital, expressed it all beautifully in his opening remarks: "A dream has come true".
A lot of work and investment, again in the order of one hundred million crowns, as has been invested so far, is still to come. Nevertheless, there is already a hospital here that is moving very quickly towards the goal that its owner set out when he privatised it - to have one of the most beautiful and modern hospitals in the country in Beroun again, as it was when it opened 80 years ago. With quality medical care for all.
Words of praise for the hospital, which a few years ago was still unattractive and, let's admit, even condemned, and whose fate was more than unclear, were also heard on Saturday during the open day for the public. The visitors admired the beautifully renovated, state-of-the-art facilities, offering both very modern inpatient wards and a wide range of outpatient services and other facilities for all who need them. The visitors also viewed with interest the decoration of the hospital, pictures from various places in the country and abroad, captured by Jan Calta with his camera. Visitors to the celebrations were also attracted by the exhibition of the history of the hospital and charming children's drawings, placed in the waiting room of the outpatient wing.
The icing on the imaginary birthday cake and a beautiful gift for all those who visited the hospital in such large numbers was a four-hour marathon of fun, which was preceded by the evaluation of the art competition Children, please help us heal. Greek songs were sung, Greek dances were performed by the Prometheus and Akropolis groups, the Boro Balkan Band rang out the hospital grounds with Greek-Balkan rhythms, Martha and Tena Elefteriadou charmed with their captivating voices, and the great duo The Robots entertained all generations present, not only with their original dance. Soprano Hana Pecková also came on stage to wish the hospital celebrations, not only as an opera singer, but also as an excellent performer in the ethno genre. The relaxed atmosphere in the early evening was also brought by the performance of singer Tereza Kerndlová, followed by the very funny, talented singer Ondřej Ruml, who sang brilliantly but also entertained everyone.
Without a doubt, the highlight of the celebrations was the performance of the still amazing lady of our popular scene, Eva Pilarová, whose semaphore hits have already been sung by the audience.
