"The structure of the car fleet is divided into two categories, namely transport medical service by ambulances and transport of employees by private cars," says Ondřej Fabián, head of the transport department, which is located on the premises of the Beroun hospital.
The operation of vehicles is not limited to transport, but also includes their general maintenance, during which it is important to pay attention to many safety and technical aspects. For these purposes, the IT department has developed a sophisticated software tool that is tailored to the needs of the transport department.
"The software monitors a lot of variables for each car - from various information about its previous use, the status of the technical inspection or movement, to service records and, for example, the imminent expiry of the car insurance equipment. It is a kind of database of the cars' 'birth certificates', including their 'medical history'. The program can notify you by email and well in advance of the necessary changes, which we then make within our team," Ondřej Fabián further describes.
The ambulances make up to 1,300 journeys per month
A specific category is transport ambulances, of which there are fourteen in total for the Beroun and Hořovice hospitals. Although these are not fast ambulances, they also have to be monitored for the condition of the mandatory medical equipment, which is stipulated by the relevant decree and technical standard. "In total, there are more than forty items that we register together with the classic equipment of the vehicle for road traffic. Not all the medical instruments have an expiry date, but sterile items, for example, do, and these obviously need to be monitored," continues Ondřej Fabián.
Notifications to arrange for replacements are sent by email several weeks in advance. This means that the still safely usable equipment does not go in the bin, but is used on the wards in the hospital. "This avoids creating unnecessary waste," adds the transport manager.
Dispatcher Zdeňka Finstrová coordinates the movement of ambulances for Beroun, while her colleague Martina Vaňková is responsible for Hořovice. Thanks to their flawless work, the eighteen drivers manage an average of 1,300 patient transports each month within the region and Prague, including blood transports.
Carsharing as an employee benefit
For several years, AKESO Medical Holding has been offering employee benefits in the form of transport in Škoda Octavia company cars. Everything works on the principle of carsharing, where employees agree to share a free ride to work with each other. "The cars are parked on the outskirts of Prague and Plzeň, Příbram, Kladno and Dobřany so that they are always close to a local public transport station to make it as easy as possible for people to get around," explains Ondřej Fabián. In this case, on average, around 980 journeys are made in one month. The movement of these cars is also coordinated by dispatchers.
In addition, as a result of the opening of the Mental Rehabilitation Centre in Beroun and the planned opening of a new super-modern pavilion at the Hořovice Hospital, which is currently under construction, the number of patients and staff is expected to expand further. This development will naturally result in an increase in the number of all vehicles and the frequency of their use.
