Beroun and Hořovice hospitals together with the Multiscan Oncology Centre in Pardubice earned CZK 94 million last year. The three largest healthcare facilities in the portfolio of entrepreneur Sotirios Zavalianis ended last year in the black. In addition, both the Central Bohemian hospitals in Hořovice and Beroun and the Multiscan Oncology Centre in Pardubice increased their revenues. The Hořovice hospital made CZK 623 million, 8.5 percent more than in the previous year. "The increase in the number of patients is even much higher. However, revenues are limited by the system of reimbursement for health services, which does not allow for a bigger increase," Zavalianis said. Thus, he said, the increase in procedures is not fully paid for by the hospital.
Hořovice hospital had 18,000 cases in its beds last year, up nearly four percent year-on-year. It also provided eighteen percent more examinations. Revenues are also up at Zavalianis' other two hospitals. Multiscan and Jessenia, which operates the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital, made ten percent more last year than the previous year - Multiscan 499 million and Jessenia 385 million crowns. The three companies made a total of CZK 94 million last year.
The Zavalianis group expects revenue growth of six to twelve percent this year. It plans to invest more than half a billion crowns in healthcare facilities next year and the year after. It does not intend to reconstruct, but to expand. One of the projects Zavalianis has started, for which he unsuccessfully applied for European subsidies, is a new psychiatric rehabilitation pavilion in Beroun. It is planned to cost up to CZK 1 billion. Multiscan was awarded the "Czech Top 100" award for successful companies in the health and education category by Comenius at the end of November. By comparison, the Central Bohemian Region has budgeted CZK 200 million to cover the losses of its five hospitals next year. For example, the Kladno hospital lost 185 million crowns last year and again this year about 170 million crowns. Its liabilities at the beginning of the year exceeded CZK 300 million.
