The "Clean Hands Event", as we called the campaign at the Beroun hospital, took place on Friday, 4 May 2018, in the entrance area of the MUDr. J. Calta Rehabilitation Centre. Healthcare workers (see photo) conducted an instruction on the correct procedure of hygienic hand disinfection. Interested visitors and health professionals tried the correct technique themselves. Using ultraviolet light from a special lamp, everyone could check whether they had used the disinfectant solution correctly, in sufficient quantity and on the whole hand.
"In general, most infections are transmitted on the hands, even in healthcare facilities, where everyone should know how to follow the correct procedures. It is important to know the situations in which to use disinfectant. Equally important is the correct procedure for applying sufficient disinfectant to all areas of the hands. We must not forget the fingertips and thumbs. During the campaign, it has been shown that these places are the most often missed when disinfecting hands," said Ilona Kupková, head nurse at Beroun Hospital.
Proper hand washing takes about 15-20 seconds. Clean hands prevent the contraction of serious diseases and the spread of viruses and infections. Hand washing and disinfection can reduce the risk of infection through hands by up to 66%.
