The aftercare department has a lot to offer

They are succeeding in returning many patients to normal life The long-term care hospital, LDN, is a term that is still more familiar among people than the one used today, and especially in terms of the services provided, it is much more apt - the aftercare unit. In the Beroun Hospital, this department has certainly recently contradicted some of the opinions that accompanied the reputation of the LDN and, unfortunately, in some medical institutions, still, rightly, accompany it. It is clear that it is mainly long-term seriously ill patients who are placed here, but the idea that if someone is in the LDN, it is actually a kind of lifetime, certainly does not apply here.

They manage to return many patients to normal life
A long-term care hospital, or LDN, is a term that is still more familiar among people than the one used today, and especially in terms of the services provided, it is much more apt - an aftercare unit.In the Beroun Hospital, this department has certainly recently contradicted some of the opinions that accompanied the reputation of the LDN and, unfortunately, in some medical institutions, still, rightly, accompany it.It is clear that it is mainly long-term seriously ill patients who are placed here, but the idea that if someone is in the LDN, it is actually a kind of lifetime, certainly does not apply here.
The quality of care in the Aftercare Unit at Beroun Hospital is of a high standard and covers a wide range of services."We prefer an active approach to the treatment of our patients, including a complex of real therapeutic procedures aimed at alleviating a wide range of health problems, curing acute diseases, improving self-care abilities, mobility and in general - achieving long-term stabilization of health," says the head of the department, MUDr. Miloš Stoilov, CSc and adds that the undisputed advantage of this department is the direct - material and personal - connection to the Department of Internal Medicine and the Rehabilitation Centre, with the possibility of a wide range of specialist diagnostic tests both in Beroun and in the partner hospital in Hořovice. In order to provide the best possible care for a patient, a quality assessment of his/her condition is necessary. This requires the correct information, i.e. medical reports, results of previous examinations, etc., when the patient is admitted to the department.
It can therefore be said, and this is no exaggeration at all, that the main aim of the aftercare ward at the hospital in Beroun is to return people to normal life, to the care of their families or to alternative social environments such as nursing homes, etc. There is a social worker who is ready and able to organise the provision of the necessary social facilities. She cooperates with social services departments, state and non-state care services, home care agencies, social care institutions and always tries to find the best solution.
As in other wards, the Beroun Hospital's aftercare ward offers a well-equipped environment, rooms with modern reclining beds, and, for example, television. The provision of hygiene, a correct and balanced diet, and the monitoring of the drinking regime undoubtedly play a role, especially in the case of immobile patients. Targeted physiotherapy and rehabilitation nursing also make a significant contribution to improving the health of patients here.
Patients are usually transferred to the aftercare unit directly from acute beds. However, this is not the only placement option. The family caring for the patient, a general practitioner, a social services facility, etc. may request a stay in this ward. After assessing the patient's condition and, of course, if there is a vacancy, the Aftercare Unit at Beroun Hospital will do everything possible to ensure that the person returns to normal life in a better condition than after admission to hospital. The social worker Eva Nguyenová (tel. 311 745 243) or the station nurse Blanka Majerčáková (tel. 311 745 308) will always consult the ward and answer various questions.
