Zdeněk Kastner joined the Beroun hospital 50 years ago, exactly on 1 September 1972, as head of the operations department.
His duties included, among other things, equipping all incoming employees with protective equipment. "All the employees were "under my hands" for almost 15 years. And in the spring of 1973, with the help of a colleague, the operations manager Vasek Vetrovec, who later helped "hunt for players", I conceived the idea of starting a football team. We succeeded, and that year we played our first match with colleagues from the Chrustenice Poultry Farm," says the founding member.
Over time, new players arrived, sometimes from among family members, some also left for other jobs. From the team that played the very first match, only two players remained - Jaroslav Forman, MD, and Zdeněk Kastner. Often they had to fill in for the not-so-football types, but they went into each of the matches with all their body and soul. This could be evidenced by the number of crystal cups and the team's chronicle, which unfortunately could not be preserved. But at one time the cups were displayed in a glass case in the arcade of the current Hall B.
"I can't say which victory was the most significant. In my opinion, perhaps every one. But we managed to organize 3 matches in the then GDR, a match in Třeboň Spa, matches with the Amfora Prague team and with the old guard of Sparta Prague. We organized several tournaments in August with the participation of various teams not only from Beroun, but also from Prague and for all the employees a hospital ball several times. In winter we went to the gym on the housing estate and organized a table tennis tournament there. So we played for an estimated 18 years, which I think is respectable for a company team. And it wasn't just games with Beroun teams, but also frequent matches with the team of the Hořovice hospital, which was mainly made up of drivers," recalled the football international, who left the football team in the autumn of 1986. Then gradually other members left until there was no interest in organizing and the club disbanded around 1990.
The meeting was attended by MUDr. Jaroslav Forman, Zdeněk Freiberg, Tomáš Jiras, MUDr. Miroslav Bejlek, MUDr. Miroslav Mulač, Jiří Klán, Rudolf Velík, MUDr. Vojtěch Charvát, Luboš Kocman, Josef Vachoušek, Drahoslav Vícha, Petr Vlček, Petr Karásek and Zdeněk Kastner. The others unfortunately could not.
Before some of the doctors, maintenance workers, clerks and lab technicians present went to see their former places of work, Zdeněk Kastner remembered his colleagues who had unfortunately passed away and reminisced about other members of the team.
"Colleagues who were on the tour described their route and everyone recalled where they had worked years ago or where their workplace had stood. They really liked the new hospital and enjoyed the tour. The changes are huge. The face of the hospital has changed incredibly for the better. I myself was reminded that where I used to work in my office and welcome new players, there is now a urology outpatient clinic. It reminded us of our youth and many wonderful experiences. I therefore thank the hospital management for the opportunity to meet here. I wish the director of the hospital and the owner of AKESO holding to prosper, happy patients and a smiling team of employees," said Zdeněk Kastner.
