Clinical psychologist is a specialist in mental health care. Within the health care system, he deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses and psychological disorders. In diagnosis and treatment, she uses specific psychological methods based on current knowledge of the development and mechanisms of the human psyche and its pathology. The most commonly used diagnostic methods include interview, use of psychodiagnostic tests and questionnaires, and the use of physiological methods. The most frequently used therapeutic methods include psychotherapeutic interview, rehearsal techniques, guided relaxation, hypnosis.
For the purpose of examination or therapy, people are most often referred to a psychological outpatient clinic by a general practitioner, neurologist, psychiatrist or clinical speech therapist. The psychologist also often works closely with these professionals. However, a client can also make an appointment on his or her own, without a referral.
