Same-day surgery in practice
In its last episode, the programme What's Your Health About was dedicated to the phenomenon of same-day surgery. MUDr. Petr Zeithaml, the head of day surgery at the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun, introduced the audience to how the whole system works in practice - from the initial indication to the patient's discharge home. The programme also included a report from the Beroun hospital, which offered a behind-the-scenes look at modern surgical care.
What is same-day surgery?
Same-day surgery is a safe, effective and patient-friendly alternative to traditional hospitalisation. Thanks to modern surgical and anesthesia procedures, a patient can undergo a procedure and return home the same day. This model significantly reduces the physical and psychological burden, shortens recovery time and increases overall comfort.
The most common procedures in day care include:
- Laparoscopic gallbladder and inguinal hernia surgery,
- arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder or elbow,
- umbilical hernia repair,
- minor hand procedures,
- removal of larger skin and subcutaneous lesions,
- varicose vein procedures, minor abdominal surgery and more.
