How to restore operations immediately after a cyber attack? Healthcare holding AKESO introduced one of the most modern data centres in the Czech Republic

16. 6. 2026

The number of cyber attacks in the Czech Republic is growing rapidly and they are not avoiding the healthcare sector. Czech hospitals face up to thousands of hacking attempts a year. In such cases, not only sensitive data is at risk, but also patients' lives, as attackers can disable entire departments. Organizations managing critical data and systems must therefore be prepared not only to prevent risks effectively, but above all to ensure immediate and guaranteed recovery. Therefore, AKESO Healthcare Holding, as a member of the country's critical infrastructure, held a presentation where it presented its technologically cutting-edge Data Centre in Beroun with a prestigious Tier III certification and a unique cyber resilience strategy.

The question of cyber attacks today is no longer a question of "if" but "when" an incident will occur. For institutions managing critical infrastructure and sensitive data, it is therefore crucial not only to prevent attacks, but more importantly to be able to restore full operations immediately and reliably . During presentations at the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun, deputies of the holding demonstrated practical ways to protect sensitive patient and partner data, respond to modern security threats and ensure continuity of healthcare in the event of a massive digital attack. "The safety of our patients and the uninterrupted availability of healthcare are an absolute priority for us . Modern medicine is completely dependent on technology and data. We therefore see our investment in a state-of-the-art data center not just as a technological step, but as a key part of our responsibility to the people who trust us with their health and lives. We want to be sure that even in the most crisis situation we can protect data and ensure the functioning of hospitals without a single outage," says the owner of AKESO Healthcare Holding Ing. Sotirios Zavalianis.

High-end infrastructure with global standards

The data centre, which is part of the AKESO healthcare holding, operates with the highest available security and reliability. It is one of the few in the Czech Republic to boast the prestigious Tier III certification overseen by the Uptime Institute standards , a globally recognised authority for assessing the quality and availability of data centres. Participants of the event learned in detail about the principles of operation of this critical infrastructure and the strict requirements it must meet to withstand both technical failures and targeted external threats. "Cyber resilience today is not only about protection from attacks, but also about the ability to ensure business continuity and restore critical services in the shortest possible time," adds Stavros Nenos , Director of Sales Operations at Beroun Data Centre.

Cybersecurity in the new era and geopolitical context

The current security situation is evolving dramatically, which was confirmed by the agenda of the event, which reflected current trends in cybercrime and the impact of the current geopolitical situation on data protection in the European space. Data Centre experts analysed the mechanisms by which organisations counter sophisticated attacks and presented solutions designed to minimise outages and eliminate data loss altogether.

"In the healthcare and critical infrastructure segment, data availability has a direct impact on human health and lives. Our goal was not only to build strong walls, but to have a system that in the event of any incident will allow an immediate restart and guaranteed recovery of all key operations within a few moments," concludes Pavel Rybář, Chief Technology Officer of the Beroun Data Centre.
