The opening of a surgical outpatient clinic focused on children's patients is mainly due to MUDr. Martin Vyhnánek, who is part of the team of Motol doctors. For ten years he has been cooperating with the children's department in Hořovice, where he performs elective surgical procedures on paediatric patients.
We asked the doctor what led him to initiate the opening of a children's surgical outpatient clinic in Beroun.
This autumn it will be ten years since I became a member of the paediatric surgical team of Motol University Hospital, which started operating on paediatric patients in the hospital in Hořovice. And it is common practice that after the operation there must be a follow-up and this is usually done on an outpatient basis. Many of our young patients had to travel to Hořovice or Prague, to the Department of Paediatric Surgery at the Motol University Hospital, for check-ups. Therefore, the expansion of the surgical outpatient care with the possibility of treating paediatric patients halfway, in Beroun, was only a matter of time.
What can patients turn to you for?
The children's surgical outpatient clinic is designed for children of any age, from infancy to adulthood. We expect that patients will turn to it most often for follow-up after surgery in Hořovice. This means after surgery of umbilical or inguinal hernia, water hernia, undescended testicles and narrowed foreskin. The doctors are ready to advise on paediatric surgery, including clinical examination and, if necessary, to plan the surgery.
When and where can I make an appointment?
The children's surgical outpatient clinic at the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun will be open every Wednesday from 16:00 to 18:00 in Hall B. Patients can make an appointment now by calling the hospital reception on 311 745 272 or 144 99.
If there is interest, will you consider extending the opening hours?
For now, this is a pilot project of the children's surgical outpatient clinic at the Rehabilitation Hospital in Beroun, but if the interest is really high, I do not rule out extending the working hours.
Is this your first working meeting with the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun?
It may be surprising, given the length of time I have been working at the sister hospital, but this is really my first meeting. I hope that the paediatric surgical outpatient clinic will meet with the interest of young patients and their families and that my colleague MUDr. Vojtěch Dotlačil and I will be able to cooperate more with your hospital.
