Frames and other still lifes by MUDr. Jan Calta

30. 6. 2016

In the Museum of the Bohemian Karst in Beroun, specifically in the part called Konírna, an exhibition of unusual and charming photographs by Jan Calta is certainly worth seeing these days.

A doctor whose photographs, mostly from his travels, have probably been recorded by everyone who has ever visited the Beroun hospital, where they are an integral part of its interior. Also the exhibition of photographs in the Stables, entitled "Krámky a innych zátiší" (Small shops and other still lifes), is collected from various places around the world that Jan Calta has visited in the last 15 years. The shots that tourists take away in their cameras are, however, completely different in this case - a detail of a moment that will pass in a moment, a play of light, a momentary idea processed in detail. All of this is then uniquely emphasised by the placement of the photographs on the canvas, which enhances the illusion that some of the images are paintings. It is best to see for yourself, because it is simply impossible to describe art. The exhibition "Frames and Other Still Lifes" by Jan Calta is on view until 15 July.
