Whether you're a patient in the hospital or just going to visit your loved ones, there's no time to sit back and think about the people who take care of all the patients every day. There are plenty of people with their hearts in the right place in our team, one of whom is our Aftercare Nurse, Eliska Olšiaková. The young nurse has been working for the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun for 3 years and her enthusiasm for working in such a mentally and physically demanding ward is truly contagious. She was convinced that she wanted to help the elderly since childhood, so she went to medical school and then joined our hospital.
For the second year, Elishka has been organising a fundraiser for the patients of the aftercare ward. The call for donations of small items (statuettes, vases, etc.) is only communicated to the public via Facebook and yet she always gets a lot of small items that make our patients happy. "I felt terribly sorry and sad that our patients can't be home for the Christmas holidays. It's not often that a family member doesn't visit them and if they do, it's with great delay. My grandmother had many of these "dust catchers" displayed in her display case and I remember her lovingly caring for them. So I made arrangements with my mother to see if I could donate some. At that moment, the first year of the challenge was upon us. I thought to ask my friends and enough donations came in for all of our patients. I did the room decorations at home the first year, but thanks to social media, this year's appeal reached the director of the Children's Home in Beroun and she decided to help us with the children as well," says Eliška passionately.
"The nurse's activity caught my attention on the social network. It's very nice that she thinks about the patients - the elderly, she wants to make them happy. This is a very important support at Christmas time. Our offer came spontaneously. We bought a tree, albeit an artificial one, and we believe it will make the seniors and the staff who take care of the patients in the hospital happy. Our help is small, but from the heart. Our DD takes care of children with combined disabilities and impaired communication skills, so the possibility to import food from the kitchen of the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun is a great help for us, for which we are incredibly grateful to the hospital." Jana Müllerová, the director of the children's home, responded to a question about how the children's home found out about the event.
"I am surprised at how many gifts were collected this year and thanks to the interest on the social network, the appeal has spread to practically all corners of the Czech Republic. I'm looking forward to decorating the rooms and especially to the joy in the eyes of our patients, that's what fills me the most," says Eliška.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone.
