The above-standard cooperation between the highly specialized Prague Na Homolce Hospital and the Rehabilitation Hospital in Beroun in the field of cardiology benefits patients throughout the Beroun region.
Patients are assured that in the event of acute cardiac complications or serious heart disease, they will receive the best care at one of our most prestigious cardiology departments - Na Homolka. At the same time, they know that as soon as they manage an acute problem, they will be treated in their place of residence - in the comfortable environment of one of the most modern rehabilitation facilities in the Czech Republic. The cooperation between the Homolka Cardiac Centre and the Beroun hospital dates back to the early 1990s. However, it reached a qualitatively new level after the extensive reconstruction of the Beroun facility, i.e. after 2009, when the new premises of the internal ward and the intensive care unit were opened here. According to Professor Petr Neužil, head of the cardiology department at the Na Homolce Hospital, there is now satisfaction on both sides.

Rehabilitation in Beroun

"Thanks to our joint efforts, a very advanced echocardiography laboratory for ultrasound examination of the heart has been established in Beroun," says Professor Neužil. According to him, there is also a cardiac pacing clinic where patients who have had a pacemaker or defibrillator implanted at Homolka are monitored. "As far as local patients with acute myocardial infarction are concerned, they are provided with interventional treatment at Homolka. This consists in making the infarcted (blocked) artery clear by inserting a stent or reinforcement. After such a procedure, however, they can immediately return to Beroun, because here they have very intensive and top-quality rehabilitation care, as well as, for example, patients with prolonged heart failure and other patients whose condition requires intensive physiotherapy," says Neužil.

Beneficial for young doctors

Doctors and nurses from both departments hold joint seminars, and young doctors from the Homolka Cardiac Centre have the advantage of having an idea of how to work with patients in the field. The Beroun hospital has been transformed beyond recognition in the last decade thanks to a privatisation project approved in 2007. In the course of a few years, it has managed to build one of the most modern rehabilitation centres in the country and in Europe. In the Czech Republic, such a medical facility focused on complex rehabilitation, including acute inpatient medical rehabilitation, is quite exceptional. "A great contribution to the care of cardiovascular diseases in the internal department of the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital is the now traditional cooperation with the comprehensive cardiovascular centre of the Na Homolce Hospital in Prague. It should be emphasized that this close and very beneficial cooperation is very much supported by the owner of the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital, Sotirios Zavalianis, as his goal is to provide patients with high quality and modern care," says Associate Professor Sochor, Chief of the Beroun Internal Medicine Department.

Homolka guarantees special care

The cardioprogramme has been successfully developed at the Na Homolka Hospital for a quarter of a century and has become one of its main areas of activity alongside the neuroprogramme. Patients with various heart diseases receive top-quality care at Homolka at the level of the most advanced countries in the world. The cardiology department within this cardioprogram focuses mainly on the treatment of heart rhythm disorders, implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators and the treatment of acute syndromes of coronary heart disease. In the last decade, it has also been involved in research and development of the latest technologies and boasts a number of unique procedures performed, such as wireless pacemakers.
