Mrs. Zlata Bíbrová from Pardubice underwent her 40 000th operation in the centre in Beroun. "This is my fifth knee operation. Since my youth, my knee has been causing me problems due to inflammation. Now I have been suffering from great pain again and I am glad that I have come under the care of the doctors in Beroun. In addition to their absolute professionalism, I appreciate the speed and helpfulness of the local staff," said Mrs. Zlata Bíbrová.
The operation went without complications and the patient left our hospital the same day. MUDr. Zdeněk Kopečný, head doctor of the arthroscopy centre, said: "Same-day surgery is a field that is moving forward very quickly. This milestone confirms the centre's status as the largest facility of its kind in the Czech Republic. Now we are about to complete the new operating theatres, which will allow us not only to increase the capacity of the currently performed procedures and thus reduce waiting times for surgery, but also to introduce completely new procedures.
In general, the Arthroscopy Centre has patients who present with problems in the immediate aftermath of injuries, and patients suffering from chronic pain and difficulties in the long term. Examples of the most common surgeries are cruciate ligament damage of the knee or shoulder instability and many others. The predominant procedures are minimally invasive procedures and combined, arthroscopically assisted procedures. Open procedures, such as partial knee replacements, make up a smaller part of the centre's spectrum of procedures.
The most frequently operated diagnoses include meniscal injuries, cartilage injuries of the weight-bearing joints and cruciate ligament ruptures. The centre also deals with certain types of fractures. Since 2008, over 40,000 patients with orthopaedic and trauma problems have been operated on here.
