The hospital grounds are currently undergoing extensive renovation and a number of building improvements. The reconstruction of the hospital took place mainly between 2008 and 2013, and now work is underway on the extension of the Rehabilitation Centre. This is the third and final stage of its construction. The extension will include 2 swimming pools for physiotherapy, a large gymnasium, a hall for DAVID diagnostic fitness equipment, a canteen combined with the hospital restaurant. At the same time on two floors there will be single rooms for clients of the centre. The completion of this extension is planned for later this year.
In addition, the hospital park is being completed, and a training area for everyday physical activities is nearing completion - walking on different types of surfaces, over obstacles, up different types and sizes of stairs, and boarding vehicles.
The construction of a large-capacity hospital parking lot has started in front of the Beroun hospital.
The Beroun rehabilitation centre differs from other similar facilities primarily in size. It is the largest facility for early (acute) medical rehabilitation in the country. Within the Czech Republic, acute medical rehabilitation beds are usually established within hospitals of 20-40 beds. The Beroun hospital has been transformed into a rehabilitation hospital.
In the Rehabilitation Centre of Beroun Hospital, patients are admitted after managing the acute or post-operative period from all clinical departments, when medical rehabilitation procedures become the main component of treatment. For example, after weight-bearing joint surgeries 6-7 days after the operation, for strokes 10-14 days after the onset of the disease, if the clinical condition is already stabilized. In some cases, we start medical rehabilitation on the day of the operation and continue immediately after it, for plastic knee surgeries and other surgeries performed in the Arthroscopy Centre of Beroun Hospital. Unlike similar centres in the Czech Republic, extensive and intensive occupational therapy, carried out in sufficiently large premises by five occupational therapists, is an integral part of the medical rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Centre. The provision of continuous psychological and speech therapy is a matter of course.
All the usual diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in medical rehabilitation and physiotherapy are available at the Rehabilitation Centre. Balance testing, correct loading of the lower limbs and shoulder mobility can be tested and trained in the kinesiology laboratory. Range of motion and muscle strength can be diagnosed and trained on DAVID diagnostic strengthening machines, where a targeted individual program is designed for each client. Speech therapy and psychological care have already been discussed, but social investigation is also an integral part of the service in all cases where the injury or illness has the effect of breaking the status quo of the client's social situation.
The high quality of knowledge and commitment of the staff involved, both doctors and, in particular, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, not least nurses and orderlies, is essential.
Healthcare here is also covered by public health insurance. Patients partly pay extra for the higher equipment of the Rehabilitation Centre, which is graded according to the bed capacity of the room - single to triple rooms.
The Beroun Hospital and the Rehabilitation Centre have contracts with all health insurance companies.
