From 9 to 11 October 2026, the Kemp Medical Conference attracted around 300 medical students and young physicians from across the Czech Republic to Beroun. Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre Beroun Physicians from the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and Hospital Hořovice also took part in the professional programme.

During the weekend programme, participants were able to take part in more than 120 workshops focusing on practical topics across medical disciplines – from surgery, intensive care, paediatrics and internal medicine to neurology, psychiatry and communication skills.

“At AKESO, we are convinced that the future of the Czech healthcare system depends above all on high-quality and motivated people. Modern equipment, innovative treatment methods and state-of-the-art facilities are important, but it is the physicians and other healthcare professionals – their expertise, experience and day-to-day approach to patients – that give them their true value. That is why we regard supporting the education of the younger generation of healthcare professionals as a meaningful investment in the future of the entire sector. “We are delighted to have been able to support ‘Po medině Kemp’ for the third time as its general partner and to help ensure that medical students and young physicians have the opportunity to develop their skills in an environment that combines theory with practice,” said Ing. Sotirios Zavalianis, owner of the AKESO healthcare holding company. “We are particularly pleased with the involvement of our physicians from the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and Hospital Hořovice, who shared their valuable experience from day-to-day clinical practice with participants during the workshops. We believe that by sharing our knowledge and experience, we are helping to prepare a new generation of physicians for the demanding but immensely important work that lies ahead,” he added.

More than just practical experience: workshops across medical disciplines

The programme was packed from start to finish. Participants had the chance to practise, for example, surgical wound closure and laparoscopy on a simulator, umbilical catheterisation, and working with an incubator in neonatology. Other workshops focused on chest drainage and emergency thoracotomy, musculoskeletal sonography and options for interventional treatment. The variety of topics offered participants the chance to familiarise themselves with procedures across medical disciplines and to practise selected procedures in a hands-on setting.

Among the lecturers and figures associated with the event were experts who, alongside their medical practice, actively promote medicine and engage with the general public. These included paediatrician Dr Cyril Matějka, known as Cyril Děckar; Dr Anežka Dašková, who appears on social media as ‘Dr Anežka’; and Dr Jan Přáda, Vice-President of the Czech Medical Chamber. Their participation highlighted the importance of sharing professional expertise, communicating clearly and engaging in open discussion on current issues in the Czech healthcare system.

The future of young physicians: a debate with Health Minister Adam Vojtěch

Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre Beroun As part of the professional programme , he took part in a debate entitled ‘The Future of Young Physicians’, focusing on issues relating to specialist training, working conditions for new healthcare professionals and the future direction of the Czech healthcare system.

The discussion provided a forum for open dialogue on the functioning of the current system for training young physicians, its limitations and opportunities for further development. Attention was also focused on changes that could facilitate the transition of medical school graduates into clinical practice. The debate thus complemented the practical workshops by providing a broader perspective on the challenges faced by young healthcare professionals and on the future of the Czech healthcare system.

Preparation for clinical practice and a new approach to medicine

Through ‘Medina Kemp’, the programme combines practical training with discussions on the functioning of the healthcare system and the nature of medical education. An important part of the programme is also the opportunity to openly address the challenges that young physicians face at the start of their careers.

“We believe that high-quality training for young physicians must include not only theoretical knowledge but also practical experience and the opportunity to discuss openly the problems they will encounter in their profession. That is why we invite experts from clinical practice and guests who can offer insights into the functioning of the healthcare system from various perspectives. We also greatly appreciate our collaboration with the AKESO holding company, thanks to which the camp was once again able to take place in the excellent facilities of the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre and offer participants further opportunities for professional development,” said Dr Martin Palička, MHA, founder of the Po medině project.

The eighth edition of the ‘Po medině’ Camp has once again demonstrated how important it is to create a space for linking education, clinical practice and open discussion about the future of healthcare. On behalf of the entire AKESO holding company, we would like to thank the organisers for their excellent work and for putting together this meaningful educational event, which helps to develop the next generation of physicians. A big thank you also goes to our staff at the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and Hospital Hořovice, who helped with the preparations and actively took part in the specialist workshops. We greatly appreciate their willingness to pass on their knowledge and valuable experience from clinical practice to medical students and young physicians. Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre Beroun
