Our hospital's aftercare department proudly boasts its new, renovated look. The investment of 45 million not only in the reconstruction itself, but also in the instrumentation and the gym with rehabilitation facilities, will be visible to patients at first sight. The aftercare ward has single to four-bed rooms equipped with modern furniture, separate bathrooms and air conditioning. There has been an addition of equipment such as infusion pumps, linear dosing machines, a portable ultrasound machine, new ecg machines and many more. We are at the top of our field in terms of equipment. At the same time, we are striving to expand our range of services and patient amenities. We have psychological and speech therapy, a nurse practitioner who provides canis therapy, and occupational therapy is intensive. Thanks to a qualified nutritional therapist, we improve the nutritional aspect of our clients with the possibility of an individual superior diet. We strive to provide all-round care, and as a result we are able to improve the health of around two-thirds of our patients to the point where they can return to home or community-based social care. Sometimes, however, at the cost of some restrictions, adjustments to treatment, the use of compensatory aids or the contribution of the community.
However, what we face, like most hospitals, is a shortage of qualified staff. "Today's young people have different priorities than our generation had. I would say there is less interest in medicine in general than there needs to be and even public respect for the profession is waning. This is also reflected in the low interest of young, aspiring doctors in internal medicine and geriatrics. There is too much work, a psychologically demanding environment, weekend work, night duty, etc. However, on the other hand, I can say that our department has excellent fellow doctors, great nurses and helpful support staff. Teamwork is evident in the running of the whole department." adds MUDr. Miloš Stoilov, Head of the Aftercare Department.
