How does surgery work in the Beroun district? Cooperation between Beroun Hospital and Hořovice Hospital

Outpatient surgery at the Beroun Hospital has been fully launched. With the arrival of two new young surgeons, the hospital provides daily surgical care in the new premises with overlapping office hours until the evening. At the same time, the surgery at the Hořovice Hospital continues to develop its services for patients, whether it is the development of laparoscopic optometry, paediatric surgery or the strengthening of outpatient services and new premises for their provision.

Outpatient surgery at the Beroun Hospital has started in full swing. With the arrival of two new young surgeons, the hospital provides daily surgical care in the new premises with overlapping office hours until the evening. At the same time, the surgery at the Hořovice Hospital continues to develop its services to patients, whether it is the development of laparoscopic optometry, paediatric surgery, strengthening of outpatient services or new premises for its provision. The cooperation between the two hospitals allows patients from the entire Beroun region to benefit from top-quality surgical care that is easily accessible compared to neighbouring facilities and, in cooperation with the night trauma clinic at the central reception of Hořovice Hospital, provided all day long, including weekends .

MUDr. Petr Zeithaml and MUDr. Václav Šmíd came from Plzeň and joined the Beroun Hospital together for the New Year to continue the work of the existing team of doctors at the surgical outpatient clinic and gradually expand the services of this outpatient clinic. Together with them, the surgery hours were also expanded. Now, the surgical outpatient clinic at Beroun Hospital is available from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Dr Zeithaml says of the new outpatient clinic concept: 'We want to cover basic surgical conditions, which include minor injuries, outpatient surgical treatments as well as minor surgical procedures including mole removal. Patients can also book an appointment with us at the weekend, which can make things easier for a whole range of workers." The outpatient clinic currently treats between 50 and 60 patients per day and has the added advantage of being connected to surgery at the nearby Hořovice Hospital. "I specialise in laparoscopic abdominal hernia, gallbladder and appendix surgery in particular and abdominal surgery in general," says Dr Zeithaml. "We would like to gradually expand the entire laparoscopic program to other procedures." "The possibility to operate at the Hořovice Hospital and then follow up patients on an outpatient basis at the Beroun Hospital gives us a huge scope for development and means significant comfort for patients," adds the smiling young doctor.

Marcela Tkadlecová is from Beroun and was operated on at the end of February at the Hořovice Hospital. Doctors there performed laparoscopic surgery on her gallbladder stones. "I very much appreciated the approach of the doctors at this hospital. But what was even more pleasant was that as a Beroun resident I did not have to go to Hořovice for outpatient check-ups, but went to our hospital in Beroun", says Mrs. Tkadlecová.

Another satisfied patient is Andrea Tesarova from Mořina. "I stubbed my toe badly. Although I am from Mořina, I preferred to go to the hospital in Beroun, which I know and have good experience with. I welcomed the possibility of outpatient check-ups even in the evening, when the regular surgical surgeries are closed," says Ms Tesarová, adding: "Today, three weeks after the accident, I am satisfied and I can only recommend the surgery at the Beroun hospital in the future."

In addition to Dr Zeithaml, his colleague Dr Šmíd works in the surgical outpatient clinic, along with nurses Kateřina Šmídová, Soňa Káchová and Eva Ernestová and station nurse Jana Sklenářová. You can make an appointment at the outpatient clinic by calling 311 745 272 or 311 745 329, or come in for treatment during office hours. If the patient arrives after office hours, it is always possible to visit the surgical emergency outpatient clinic at the nearby Hořovice Hospital. Thanks to the interconnected system and information sharing, the patient has the comfort of common documentation and this ambulance at the central reception provides its services 24 hours a day.

In any hospital, surgical outpatient clinics are among the busiest. Due to the nature of surgical diseases and the need for frequent check-ups, it is not easy to efficiently book patients so as to minimize the waiting time for treatment. Particularly for busy patients, doctors often find that the normal hours of the day for follow-up visits are not convenient. It is not uncommon for them to then visit trauma surgery outpatient clinics where their check-in delays the treatment of acute patients. This hampers the running of these surgeries in the late afternoon, at night and at weekends. Therefore, in order to effectively care for their patients, both hospitals have agreed to an efficient system of surgery hours, data sharing and a common surgical team for both hospitals, which should ultimately enable smooth patient clearance.
