DAVID exercise machines, the way to strengthen the trunk muscles and muscle balance and reduce musculoskeletal problems

18. 2. 2013

At the beginning of 2013, the Rehabilitation Centre of the Beroun Hospital launched a programme based on the DAVID fitness machines. This system allows not only strengthening weakened muscles and creating their balance, but also a unique opportunity to test muscle strength and range of motion directly on the exercise machines. All this under visual control on the screen of each machine, under the supervision and guidance of qualified physiotherapists.

The actual exercise program is determined on the basis of the tests carried out directly on the machines, stored on a chip card that guarantees on each machine compliance and control of the established exercise plan with continuous control of movement. The machines will gradually provide programmes not only for patients with spinal problems, but also for hip and knee joints and, last but not least, for clients with shoulder disabilities. The first of the programs offered below.

The special spinal program includes an initial and exit examination on the machines with graphical representation of the results and a series of 12 exercise units lasting 30-60 minutes. (depending on the client's ability and fitness level). The aim is to improve stability and flexibility of the spine and large joints.

The program is suitable for anyone with a unilateral workload, chronic spinal problems, whether treated or untreated. In the case of chronic vertebrogenic problems, a professional medical evaluation by a specialist in rehabilitation and physical medicine (see outpatient Rehabilitation Center operations at www.nemocnice-beroun.cz) is preferable to determine if this type of load is appropriate and possible for the client.

The introductory price of this spinal exercise under the guidance of a physiotherapist is CZK 3 500.-.
