MUDr. Jan Calta was born in 1951 into an artistic family in Prague. His father was a stage designer and his mother an actress. In 1978 he graduated from the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, specializing in rehabilitation and physical medicine. Rehabilitation medicine became, besides photography, his great passion. He had a unique feeling and sense for new directions in the field of rehabilitation, but he also had the necessary courage and indomitable will to propose, defend and enforce these directions in practice. The result of his systematic efforts is, among other things, the large modern Rehabilitation Centre, the pride of the Beroun hospital and the entire Akeso Group.
"I met Dr. Calta in the same year that he started working with Ing. Sotirios Zavalianis. At that time, he was mainly dedicated to a new strategy of further development for the Multiscan medical group, and subsequently for our Beroun hospital. The local rehabilitation centre is thus mainly his child. Dr. Calta has always had incredible insight and great vision, but also the drive to put innovative practices into practice. Starting the successful operation of this rehabilitation hospital is undoubtedly the result of this exceptional combination of his character traits. His passing came as a great surprise, although we were aware of his illness. He worked until the last possible moment, advising young doctors and treating patients. I am glad that I had the honour of getting to know him," said Nataša Petsini, the director of the Beroun hospital, describing her memories.
Besides work, he loved photography and travelling. Even as a young boy he had the opportunity to watch the important Czech photographer Josef Sudek, who was a close friend of his parents, at work. His photographs from the surroundings of Beroun and from beautiful places around the world are still in the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and in the hospital in Hořovice. The permanent exhibition can be seen in the corridor near the RNB café, which is called nothing else than Honzik's Journey.
Stop by these beautiful photos and remember a wonderful person, a great doctor and a great personality of the history of the Akeso Group, MUDr. Jan Calta. The doctor still remains in the memories of his colleagues, friends and patients as a man who always had a warm personal relationship with everyone in his environment. Our thoughts are with his wife and our colleague Jana today, as well as with Dr. Calta's children.
