The good reputation of the Rehabilitation Centre of the Beroun Hospital is spreading rapidly and thanks to that patients from different parts of our country are coming here. Some of our famous athletes have already sought its help several times. Recently, Veronika Zvařičová, the Czech national biathlon athlete (first from the left in the photo) was treated there. This young promising athlete has already had several great sporting successes, both in the junior and senior national team. Among other things, she is the 2009 junior world champion in relay, and earlier this year she made a significant contribution to the bronze and silver medals of our women's biathlon relay at the World Championships in Germany and the European Championships in Bulgaria, she was already at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver and would probably not miss the Olympic Games in Sochi next February. But unfortunately she did not join the new season, which started with the amazing success of our biathletes at the World Cup.This May, her sporting career was interrupted by a frightening moment - a collision with a car that drove onto the training track in Jablonec nad Nisou just as Veronika was crossing it on roller skis. The consequences were literally fatal. Many very serious injuries, including head injuries, long months of treatment, when especially in the beginning the prognosis was not optimistic at all. Doctors doubted whether Veronika would remain without consequences at all, not to mention the possibility of continuing her sporting career. But the enormous efforts of a team of experienced doctors and other specialists at the hospital in Liberec and rehabilitation workers in Jablonec nad Nisou and at the hospital in Beroun bore fruit. The fact that the young, healthy and sport accustomed organism is healing quickly also plays a role. In combination with Veronika's will to "get herself back together" and certainly thanks to the non-negligible support of her boyfriend, family and colleagues as well as coaches from the national team, everything is on the right track.
Now, the gloomy thoughts of whether this sporting hope will ever get back on her feet again or whether she will suffer the consequences of her brain injury have thankfully been banished and she can even start training lightly. In fact, at the end of May this year, no one believed that things would go so well and so quickly.Yes, it will certainly take a lot of effort, both physical and mental, but in any case - Veronika Zvařičová, a native of Krnov, has already won the biggest race of her life without a doubt. If she manages to return to top sport, the cherry will be very big.
Veronika has been to the Rehabilitation Centre of the Beroun Hospital twice. The first time she said she didn't even know there was a Beroun. This medical facility was recommended to Jan Matouš, one of the leading officials of the Czech Biathlon Federation, saying that it was excellent, it would suit her and they would put her back together again. For the second time, after a knee surgery, she chose Beroun after excellent experience quite purposefully. "The people there are nice, the doctors, physiotherapists and other staff, very nice and helpful, they can give advice, everything is well timed. The environment and equipment of the centre is of a high standard, plus the park around it...", Veronika Zvařičová told us her impressions and added that she, quite frankly, misses the advice and guidance on how to work on herself."I really liked it there and if I would, but I would rather not, of course, I have had enough of hospitals this year, I need rehabilitation again, I will definitely come to Beroun again," she told us and added that she has heard that this is the opinion of many patients who have been treated here. She recalled all those who had attended to her, for example, doctors Jiří Stanya and Denisa Kostourková, rhb doctor Helena Božková, and physiotherapist Terka Bezděková, who was closest to her, Ondra Houška, as well as other employees of the centre - Lada Kvapilová, Pavel Dvořák and Filip Vaněček, with whom she trained on the machines, and Zdenička Levová, with whom she got along so well. And how do they remember her at the Rehabilitation Centre? As a sincere, kind, impeccable girl with a healthy outlook on the world, with apt observations, with a great will and discipline, developed certainly thanks to top sport.
The biathlete Veronika Zvařičová also told us her secret wish: "I don't want to rush anything, but maybe in March, at the end of the season, I would like to race".Good luck, Veronika, and happy 25th birthday in December!
